Terms of Service
The terms that govern your use of SiteGuardian. The website uptime monitor for small business. Plain English, fair limits, and a clear refund path.
Terms of Service — Last updated
What SiteGuardian does
SiteGuardian watches a website you tell it about. Once a minute (or every five minutes, depending on your plan) it pings the URL you give it. If the URL stops responding, SiteGuardian sends you an email. When the URL comes back, SiteGuardian sends you another email. That is the core of the service.
On top of uptime, SiteGuardian checks the smaller things that often break first: an SSL certificate about to expire, a checkout page that has gone silent, a contact form that has stopped returning a 200, a broken link to a product page, a checkout that has suddenly slowed down.
We monitor so you do not have to remember to log in and look.
Your account
You create an account with an email and a password, or sign in with Google. You sign in to see which sites you have set up, to add or remove URLs, and to change your billing. You are responsible for what is on your account and for keeping your password to yourself.
We may offer a way to invite a teammate or to share a read-only dashboard. If we do, the people you invite get the same access rules as you. You are responsible for what they do on your account.
Acceptable use
Do not use SiteGuardian in harmful ways. Specifically, do not:
- Point SiteGuardian at URLs you do not own or have permission to monitor.
- Use SiteGuardian to send a flood of traffic at someone else's server.
- Try to reverse-engineer, scrape, copy or resell our monitoring logic, our probe network or our alert pipeline.
- Use SiteGuardian to monitor content that is illegal where you are or where the target site is hosted.
- Try to bypass our rate limits, our authentication or our billing.
Harmful also means anything that is not on this list but that a reasonable person would call abuse.
If you abuse the service
We can suspend or terminate your account for abuse. If we suspend you, we tell you why. If we terminate, we tell you why, we stop charging you, and. If the payment is refundable under our refund policy. We will refund what you have already paid.
What our monitoring does and does not catch
We try hard to catch outages. But monitoring is not magic. Read this carefully, because it is the most important part of these terms for you:
- No service catches every outage. SiteGuardian runs probes from a small set of network locations. If your site is healthy in one region and broken in another, we may not see the broken region.
- Alert latency varies. A probe runs every minute. If something breaks the second after a probe finishes, we can take up to a minute to notice. Network, DNS, and email delivery each add their own delay on top of that.
- Alerts are best-effort. We send an email the moment we detect a problem. We do not guarantee the email arrives within any fixed window, and we do not guarantee you will see it within any fixed window.
- SiteGuardian is a watch, not a guarantee. It tells you a site is down. It does not replace hosting, redundancy, or backups.
This is the limitation of liability that matters: if SiteGuardian misses an outage or an alert arrives late, the maximum we owe you is the amount you paid us for the period in question. No consequential damages, no lost-profit damages, no "we missed the alert and now the bakery lost two days of orders" damages.
Uptime, accuracy, and our "no SLA" promise
SiteGuardian does its best, but we do not promise 100% uptime for either our probes or our alerting pipeline. Cloud regions go down. Email providers go down. We will tell you on our status page when something is wrong on our side, but the absence of a guarantee is intentional: we are a small team, and we want to be honest about what we can and cannot promise.
Plans, billing, refunds
Pricing is on the pricing page. Standard monthly tiers bill monthly and can be cancelled at any time. The Lifetime tier is a single payment.
If you are not satisfied, see our refund policy. All three paid tiers. Starter (19 dollars a month), Pro (39 dollars a month), and the Lifetime deal (299 dollars once). Come with a 30-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked.
We may change pricing in the future. If you are on a paid monthly tier, we give you at least 30 days' notice before a price change takes effect on your existing plan. You can cancel before the change takes effect if you would rather leave.
Your data, your privacy
We collect what we need to run the service: your account email, the URLs you watch, and the alert history we generated for you. We do not sell it. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to build advertising profiles. For the full list of what we collect, who we share it with, and your rights, see our privacy policy.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we change the date at the top of this page. If the change is meaningful. A new restriction, a new feature that affects your rights, or a change to the limitation of liability above. We email everyone on a paid plan a short summary of what changed. By keeping your account active after that email, you agree to the new terms.
If you do not agree to the new terms, you can cancel before the change takes effect and (if eligible under our refund policy) get your money back.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
This is one-person-startup software. We are not asking you to sign away your right to bring a real claim. There is no binding arbitration clause in these terms; either side can bring a real dispute to a court of competent jurisdiction in the United States.
